Control Conversion

Control Architect supports Bulk Build/Edit of PKS CEE, PKS SCADA, LCN EB, and Win7 TPS Builder strategies.  Pre-configured Control Conversion solutions are available from AST to support the conversion (migration) of legacy Honeywell Control system configuration assets.  A Hiway Control Conversion Plugin has been developed that can be referenced in a Control Conversion Template that provides Hiway Regulatory Box control analysis for automatically generating PKS CEE resident Control strategies based on the existing Control Strategy configuration.  The example solution below migrates Hiway resident point configuration including PIU's, CB/EC/MC Regulatory algorithms and MC simple point types including Timer, Numeric, Flag. Below are examples of using a Control Conversion solution.


The Control Binding view is where existing Hiway point type parameters are mapped to their equivalent Control Module and function block type.  Each Control Binding that is mapped by default will simply transform the property (Parameter) value as-is.  Users can choose to transform the property (Parameter) value based on a c# script that is automatically generated for each and every Control Binding.  Various functions available within the C# code language combined with powerful functions provided by Control Architect allow a user to transform existing Parameter values to their required values.


Using Control Architect to drive Control Conversion solutions provides these 4 main benefits:

  • Users spend their efforts developing an Excel build file while allowing software to drive the final conversion (migration) process.
  • Future parameter changes that need to be made are automatically applied and only those changes are propagated to the existing Control Module/Entity configurations.
  • Users can validate their conversion (migration) activities by importing the new configuration changes into a Configuration snapshot for visual and PolicyCop analysis.
  • All parameter changes are tracked in history.

The examples below show the use of the Control Templates in the solution for automatically generating PKS Control configuration files for loading through Control Builder.  Note: A Control Property is synonomous to a Parameter item that resides on an Entity that makes up a Control Strategy.

This Control Template view shows the Control bindings that have been defined for Hiway Analog types that binds the Hiway Control properties to their PKS C300 equivalent Control properties.
This Control Template view below shows the Control Conversion adapters that have been defined for Hiway Analog types.  The Control Conversion adapter binds a Control Binding Template to an Excel Data Source that contains translated Hiway Exception Build (EB) files.
This Control Conversion Adapter view shows the binding of an external Excel file as the Data Source that is processed when generating a new Data Collection.  Each adapter binding represents a set of data bound to a particular set of Control Bindings where each entity in the Excel Data Source is processed against the set of Control Bindings to transform and existing Parameter value into a new Parameter value that fits the target Control System platform in this case being a C300 Process Controller.

This Control Conversion Adapter view shows the binding of an external Excel file as the Data Source that is processed when generating a new Data Collection. Each adapter binding represents a set of data bound to a particular set of Control Bindings where each entity in the Excel Data Source is processed against the set of Control Bindings to transform and existing Parameter value into a new Parameter value that fits the target Control System platform in this case being a C300 Process Controller.


The Data Collection view below shows the results of executing an Adapter in the Control Conversion view for various Hiway Analog types.  The saved results of this Data Collection are then executed in a Control Conversion Workflow activity where the final PKS XML configuration files are generated for importing through Control Builder.

The Workflow Manager view below shows the final Conversion Workflow Activity results.  The execution of this Workflow Activity resulted in the generation of PKS XML configuration files for importing through Control Builder.
This Data Collection view shows the results of generating a Data Collection based on the Control Property and Control Binding configurations.  This view is presented to the user to allow validation of the Parameter items that will be modified and those that will be left unchanged when building a new set of entities or overwriting an existing set of entities.

This Data Collection view shows the results of generating a Data Collection based on the Control Property and Control Binding configurations. This view is presented to the user to allow validation of the Parameter items that will be modified and those that will be left unchanged when building a new set of entities or overwriting an existing set of entities.
This Workflow Manager view is automatically invoked when saving the results of a Data Collection view.  The single task that is checked (enabled) will be executed to generate the Control Module configuration for the set of data contained in the attached Data Collection.
